If you’ve been in the cryptocurrency sphere for very long, there’s no doubt that 2017 has been a crazy year so far – and it doesn’t look to slow down anytime soon! As the crypto markets are shifting and changing so quickly, it’s always difficult to try and pick just on card as being the best GPU for mining, but I at least hope to point you in the right direction.
As interest in ethereum mining hardware has increased exponentially in the first half of the year, there is an extreme shortage on mining GPUs. As I went on a quest to build my own Ethereum mining rig, most of the information I found was already out of date. You know what I mean. If you’ve come across anything that says “Buy some AMD RX570 or RX580s for $200 and put them in a computer” you know they’re talking about late 2016, or early 2017. Those AMD mining GPU cards have been on such short supply that the price of them has more than doubled.
When I started trying to build my rig and select and choose GPUs for mining 2017, time and time again I would end up with a great tip on a fast GPU with a high hashrate for mining ether, but would head to one of the online retailers only to find the card out of stock, or double the price mentioned in the blog or forum post.
This led me to start looking at the NVidia cards. Compared to an RX570 hashrate of 30 mH/s, the nVidia hashrate of 24 mH/s for ethereum seems low, but once you factor in that the RX570 can cost 1.5 times to 2 times the price of a GTX 1060, the nVidia GTX GPU starts to make sense.
Next, I learned that a GTX card can be undervolted and tuned so that the power usage is almost half of what the RX570 would be, making it an overall more efficient card in terms of electricity usage per megahash.
Right now, the best GPU for mining 2017, if you want to mine Ethereum, would be the GTX1060 with 3GB of memory. With prices as low as $7 or $8 per megahash, and with the ability to mine Ether for at least another year (see this page for DAG file explanation), they’ll offer the quickest payoff.
However, if you have a line on some AMD RX series cards that are anywhere close to MSRP (unlike the $400-$500 price online), then go for those. Sure you’ll use more power, but you’ll be mining Ether at rates 30% faster than the NVidia cards.
Do you have a small mining rig, or perhaps a computer that you want to add 1 or 2 GPUs to so you can start mining ether, than your space is limited (compared to a custom built mining rig with 6 or 7 GPU slots). Then you’ll want to look at something like the GTX 1080Ti or the GTX1070 as your option for the best GPU for mining 2017.

Some tips i have seen in terms of laptop or computer memory is there are specifications such as SDRAM, DDR or anything else, that must fit the technical specs of the mother board. If the pc’s motherboard is pretty current while there are no operating system issues, changing the storage space literally usually takes under an hour.
